University of Florida

Finishing up a three day visit at UF, had a chance to go check out the
swamp, eat at the Copper Monkey (Best burger in town), The Swamp
Restaurant (Gainesville favorite) and grab a beer with Willy at
Mothers one night. Unfortunately I'm missing the football game this
weekend but that just means I need to come back.

Denver Baby!

Took a 2,400 mile detour from my travels on the road this weekend and
went back to Denver. Had a chance to catch the CU-Hawaii game saturday
and then watched the Broncos actually play football for a change, as
they owned the Seattle Seahawks. Now it's time to catch a flight to
Orlando and hit the road to Gainsville.

Eta Epsilon Chapter

New chapter house for the Eta Epsilon chapter of Sigma Pi at Florida
State University. It is a historic landmark of the city of
Tallahassee. Erected in 1903 the house was the one time home for the
mayor of Tallahassee.

Florida State University

For a university that I have ragged on for years and has arguably some
of the most questionable student athletes in the past two decades, I
gotta give it to them, they do have a great campus. There is beautiful
mix of southern architecture meets Spanish design. Much of the campus
is welcoming and makes you feel as though you were walking through the
1920's; definitely a pleasant suprise.

"My Dad's a Pistol; That Make's Me a Son of a Gun"

While in Livingston, AL at the University of West Alabama. A Lewis
Grizzard impersonator was in town doing a tribute to Lewis.

For those unfamiliar with Lewis, he is on of the most famous Sigma Pi
alumni and the most syndicated columnist in American history.

The brothers of Theta Gamma and I spent an evening getting a glimpse
of what made Lewis so funny and so admired by his followers.

Who would have known there were things to do in Livingston. If you get
a chance, look up some of his columns. They'll provide you with a good
laugh for the day.

Grand National Golf Course

Had the opportunity to spend the afternoon playing a round at the
Grand National golf course in Opelika, AL, just outside of Auburn. The
course was set in one of the most beautiful settings anyone could come
up with. As a part of the Robert Trent Jones trail, it could be the
best stop on the trail.

Budget Item: Toilet Paper Clean up

Auburn is apparently the only city in America that has toilet paper
clean-up on the city's line item budget.

After a War Eagle victory the students coat the entrance to the
university in a white blanket of toilet paper that would make a group
of teenage boys on Halloween proud.

SEC Football

Started my fall semester on the road with a great night at the
Arkansas State - Auburn game. Love the return of college football

Alpha Chapter, Vincennes, IN

Had the fortunate opportunity to finally go and visit the Alpha
chapter of Sigma Pi at Vincennes University this past weekend.

While the university is struggling to find it's identity, and
therefore the type of men on campus are in a similar predicament, our
Alpha chapter has found a way to strive and succeed through this
period.

As a little bit of a history buff, and a believer that we can not know
where were going unless we know where we've been; it was great to see
Rose hill, the boyhood home of one of our founders, George Martin
Patterson, Shadowwood Memorial, the long time headquarters of Sigma
Pi, the Niblack-Weems home, the location of the fraternities name
change fromTau Phi Delta to Sigma Pi. We stood at the grave sites of
Patterson and Curtis G. Shake. It was a great experience to stand in
the same spot as the men who began the organization that has been such
an influence on my life.

Finally there was the clock tower across the street from the current
chapter house (pictured). It was erected in honor of 100 years of
Sigma Pi and donated to Vincennes University as a thank you for their
support of the fraternity over the past century.

The visit was a great experience and one that I would recommend to any brother.
